My name is Larry. I have been in the field of security and safety for more than 30 years. Starting as a line officer, I have worked various types of security, including, retail, office, warehouse, government contractor, and healthcare. Healthcare being the area I have had the most experience with moving up from officer, to supervisor and manager in Chicago, Il. I have since moved down South to Kentucky and am enjoying a semi-retirement with a hospital there.

I have been reading the posts for several years now and decided to add my two cents in.

I've been reading the forums for a while now, but just decided to join recently. Like others, I have been in the security field for many years, and am proud of what I do. I am not a "wannabe cop". I have no interest in joining a police force. It's nice to find this forum where there are others who enjoy working in security, and also take pride in what they do.

I am Canadian, and upon leaving high school way back in '87 I did some time in the Canadian military as an MP. Following this, I got my private security license, and worked for a few contract companies in the Toronto area. I got my foot in with the government in the mid-90s as a correctional officer, then was hired by a municipality as a shift supervisor in their corporate security division. This was followed by several years as a 911 dispatcher for a county police department, before returning to private security, this time in the oil sands of northern Alberta, where I worked as a patrol assistant supervisor. I came home after two years in the oil industry, and worked casino surveillance, before starting my own security agency. I'm loving being self employed, but it is a lot more work than I ever expected. Not that I am opposed to hard work, of course, but I had no idea how satisfying, and how tough, owning a business would be. But I love it and wouldn't trade it for the world.

Thank you, to the forums, moderators and contributors, for all of the valuable information, industry updates and "war stories" I have been able to read on this site. Keep up the great work!
