    Located in downtown Minneapolis, Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) is Minnesota's premier Level 1 Adult Trauma Center and Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.     Hennepin County Medical Center has an opening for a Security Director.
    Under general direction, responsible for managing and directing system wide activities related to security. Participates in system wide activities related to Joint Commission preparedness. Collaborates with educational services to ensure appropriateness & effectiveness of related security orientation and training programs. Provides oversight on the hospital wide security technology and management plan.

    • Proposes the organizational priorities and strategies for HCMC safety and security structures based on latest innovations, regulatory requirements and healthcare best practices
    • Plans, develops, implements and monitors security management programs and related procedures for medical center facilities
    • Provides direct supervision to Security Supervisors in the planning, coordination and implementation of comprehensive security management of medical center facilities. Provides indirect management of Senior Security Officers and front line Protection Officers and Dispatchers
    • Ensures a culture of inclusiveness and respect that fosters high performance and accountability, and recognizes the unique needs of HCMC patient populations
    • Provides security management perspective, program interpretation, and related assistance in the planning and technical development of security systems for new and existing facilities including the overall supervision of the Security Operations Center, and its ongoing operation and maintenance
    • Identifies and develops security program budget requirements and project, monitor, and evaluate related expenditures; evaluates requirements, assist in establishing performance standards, and develops and negotiates specifications for contracted services
    • Conducts and/or oversees special investigations and directs the coordination with law enforcement officials, agencies and other departments on security matters
    • Coordinates hiring, training, and evaluation of personnel and the development of education/training programs to ensure appropriate awareness of security procedures, including building access/control
    • Determines appropriate staffing patterns and functional requirements for 24/7 coverage
    • Actively participates in the Support Services leadership team and executes goals to ensure alignment with HCMC strategic pillars
    • Manages human resources within the Security Department to ensure quality services, to provide safety to patients, visitors and staff, excellent customer service, and promote positive employee relations
    • Responsible for the fiscal management of the Security department; forecasts future investment requirements in technology, personnel and supplies; ensures proper utilization of organization’s financial resources
    • Oversees the development of security training programs including self-defense, de-escalation, behavioral detection, proper use of restraint, first aid, etc.
    • Directs program for assuring protection and security for individuals, visitors, clients, and their possessions
    • Directs the need for establishing, scheduling, and supervising a continuing instructional and training program for the operation of security devices and protective measures
    • Directs the installation, maintenance, and operation of security systems, technologies and devices where approved
    • Performs related work as required, but only after appropriate training


    Minimum Education/Work Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Social Services, Security Technology, or related field
    • Three years of approved experience in security supervision/management

    • Two years of post-secondary education in Security Management, Law Enforcement, or related field
    • Five years of experience in security supervision/management

    • An approved equivalent combination of education and experience

    • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills
    • Strong performance integrating strategic/tactical operating plans
    • Strategic thinking, leadership and strong relationship management
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and negotiate with people at all levels.
    • Excellent organizational, time management, prioritization and delivery skills
    • Strong analytical and PC skills

    Leadership Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
    • Strategy minded; ability to focus on strategic rather than operational objectives
    • Ability to effectively allocate resources (i.e. budget and personnel)
    • Capable of assisting executives in defining organizational goals, critical issues, and strategic plans
    • Experience modeling and upholding organizational norms and values, particularly with regards to health and safety
    • Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking when addressing organizational issues
    • Skilled in fostering a positive workplace culture and building inclusive workplace teams
    • Experienced in providing and receiving feedback via daily interactions and direct reports
    • Skilled in creating an environment that is open to feedback

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Three or more years of management/supervisory experience with knowledge of statistics
    • Experience with security systems and technology
    • Experience with Incident Command Systems
    • Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Social Services, Security Technology, or related field

    Cant imagine compensation will match responsibilities...but seems like a good gig

      Ha, yeah, my concern, why isn't there someone already being groomed for such a position? If our director leaves, I know who'd take his place. It's a little concerning that's for sure.

        Very possible that there is a favored internal candidate, but maybe they have to post it by rule.
