My employer was all like "nope" and I was all like "say what?" and they were all like "we can't justify the expense. besides, you're in sales, and this is a business development show. at best, marketing should handle this" and I was all like "well, i suppose that's true but i'm afraid marketing doesn't have the capacity to develop new markets, as i don't think they have anyone with either the product knowledge or market segment experience in security and surveillance, fool" and they were all like "we'll take your objections under advisement. now, we out, bee-otch!".
And I was all like, this sucks, so I totally texted the whole thing to my Facebook wall and my Twitter.
I will be at ISC East. No, I'm sorry, I mean ISC Events, eyeroll. The CCTV Blog.
"Expert" is something like "leader". It's not a title that you can ever claim for yourself no matter what you might know or might have done. It's a title that others bestow on you based on their assessment of what you know and what you have done.

Sorry Geoff, I didn't see this in time, and drove back Wednesday evening, well overnight really, got home at 2am. Had a great show though. Met many people I've only talked to, some I've known by phone for nearly a decade. Saw many old friends and acquaintances, and did have dinner with OC.

What was your goal at the show? Attend seminars or visit with product vendors on the show floor? Most of my time was on the show floor, but did have the chance to attend two good seminars (one on soft targets, one on school security).
There was some neat technology, but not sure I saw anything that really blew me away (well there was some neat stuff that impressed me, but none of it was available on the market yet -- just R&D type stuff that may or may not become available). One thing I realized is that I need to learn a LOT more about database servers and cross-platform communication protocols, because there were a couple conversations I had where they went into those topics, and it went over my head. Whoosh!
There were a lot of booths where I didn't get a chance to look in at big product launches.
I have video on hand of a thief captured on the show floor. I'll post that up today so you all can look at it... Link to come...

Curt,
I wasn't able to attend that session, but I did notice that IAPSC had a nice presence with a booth near the registration desk, among the ASIS special committees. I managed to attend two seminars (I always hope for more, but much of my time is spent on the show floor speaking with exhibitors). One was from Paul Timm, PSP. He's presenting for SIW next week on school security. I highly recommend everyone attend this.

The other one I was able to attend was about security for soft targets, and while it was a sobering session, I wasn't super impressed with the education part of that. Andrea from DHS was there (blanking on her last name right now) and she had a lot of suggestions for resources and strategy for improving security at soft targets.
Finally, here's a link to a video summary of the events around a laptop robbery from Moog's booth. This isn't a great video of the robbery itself (I thought I had that, but I don't), but it shows how the BriefCam technology (running inside Milestone's VMS) looks.
