    Default Professionals use Linkedin

Most of the professionals in the UK now use business oriented social networking, like Linkedin.

Linkedin has added one million professional users in the past eight months and one member every second from all over the world.
Linkedin is one of the social media sites of choice for many professionals. We can see that at LinkedIn's key stats.

    • 65 million registered users
    • 15 million European members
    • 1 professional joins Linkedin every second
    • spanning more than 200 countries and territories worldwide

I find LinkedIn to be a fantastic resource for business professionals. I started a group called Alarm Monitoring on there about 6 months back and it now has over 120 members. These are not just your average Joes, many of them are industry leaders and very knowledgeable in their field.

As the owner of the group, this is a very valuable resource to me.

I really like the IP Video group.
    The CCTV Blog.

"Expert" is something like "leader". It's not a title that you can ever claim for yourself no matter what you might know or might have done. It's a title that others bestow on you based on their assessment of what you know and what you have done.

Some of my groups are excellent, some okay, some not so much. I've had to un-join some groups that sounded good but turned out to be nothing but spam machines.

I enjoy using it, but like ST, I too have had to "adjust" what groups I belong too.

Honestly, I have not had a lot of luck with Linkedin. Perhaps I need to put more effort into it, but have not really made good contacts there. I have made more useful contact both here and on Facebook. Maybe I need to give it a second chance.

I also joined linked-in two months back and also some groups. It is a good website to create profile and also good for employers to seek perfect candidate. To be very honest it doesn't showed me any result up-till now I am still waiting.

I like Linkedin because it helps me stay in contact with people that I work with or have in the past, meet at seminars and school but I don't have a facebook kind of relationship with. Plus I have found that you should never friend coworkers on facebook... its for friends and just try posting that you just had a great interview or that you really dread dealing with a coworker and you will be front page on the gossip mill. Seen it happen to many times. I have found Linkedin groups to be a useful source of information about Loss Prevention, Safety and HR related issues. Linkedin also puts you out there even when your not really looking and who knows where that can lead. I Google every prospective employee for my department and compare linkedin profiles to resumes. People will tend to exaggerate more on a hard copy resume then they will on a public one that the ex or present boss may read.

I agree, Linkedin is a great resource to connect with your business contacts, and find new contacts at the same time. Particularly there are a ton of groups that you can get advice from professionals in the industry. I definitely recommend to go to groups like Security Industry Group , Surveillance Technology or IP Video Surveillance
