Default Moving to New York - Licensing Questions

    Hello Everyone,
I am going to be moving to New York and have a few questions. As far as I understand it N.Y. requires an 8 hour guard training course before the license application can be submitted. Does anyone know if you get some kind of "temporary" card so you can start working after the application is submitted?

Does anyone have a time line on how long it takes to get an armed guard card and what is involved? I do know that you need to take a 47 hour course and qualify with your weapon. Any other information?

Also, anyone hiring in the N.Y.C./Long Island area?

    Thanks!

Ok, no temps are issued, but once you take the 8 hour course and they send in the paperwork you can get a number that will let you work till you get your card. After the 8 hour training to get the card, you need an additional 16 hours training in the next 45 days to keep it active.

As for the armed work, you will need to get a state pistol permit (about 6 months) and then the 47 hour course.

    Default Thank you

    Oram,
Thank you for the quick reply. When you "Send in the paperwork" how long does it take to receive your number to begin working? Can you deliver it directly to the Division of Criminal Justice and receive your number immediately?

I know in Florida if you bring it to a Division of Licensing you get a "blue card" and can work that day if need be. Does N.Y. issue anywhere at the same speed?

NY will not issue you a temp card, but once you have sent in the paperwork and they have recieved it, a company that you want to work for can call in and get a "transaction number" that will alow you to work for them. Could take 2-3 days to get the number. Getting your card could take anywhere from 1 week to 2 months.
