    Here's a discussion with a couple different courses mentioned.

    EMT-B will be expensive, yes...But you may be looked at with an EFR/MFR (Emergency First Responder/Medical First Responder) course as well...Have you considered volunteering with a fire department or a regional Search & Rescue or Community Emerg Response Team outfit? That will also give you some free training, valuable experience, and you'd get to network and positively interact with people.

    Another thing, you could also get your Train The Trainer cert...That will look good on you, especially come promotion time.
