To all ADT Clients or considering being a ADT Client: (san mateo)
This is a true story, happened to us the property owner.
We have an Eviction for our rental property, these tenants had an ADT alarm system install without our approval, the city keep sending the false alarm bill to us, finally we got the eviction lockout date and time from the sheriff department, it was March Xth at XX:XXam. We made attempts calling this alarm company to let them know to disable the alarm at the time when the sheriffs come, because this house is no longer rent to these people and the owner do not have the code to disable this alarm. We were afraid of the additional charges from the City again. We now know for every false alarm trigger by the alarm system, the city will cite a violation. We just found out from the police office this false alarm bill will increase for every false alarm. Unfortunately, this false alarm bill will under owner's name and send to the owner not the tenants.
Telling or asking the ADT alarm company was a total waste of time. This or any company first priority is C.Y.A. and takes care of the rest later. Proper company response "We can only disable the alarm by the person who sign the contract with only, even you are the owner and the tenants no live there any more."
We made attempts from Police Department to fax a copy to ADT about the eviction. There replied "We do not accept fax from anyone about eviction notice." We end up speaking with a supervisor in charge, with the same C.Y.A. "It is not the company problem, we understand false alarm do happen but it was city at fault sending the bill to the owner."
Long story short, make sure you know exactly happens with false alarm charges from your city. Even if you disable the alarm system from the wall does not mean it is disable. Alarm companies will take your monthly service charges but do not care what happens you get bill improperly. If you have rental property, please make sure no let your tenants false alarm bill to you(city will send it to the owner, it is the owner's name on the bill, office you can get the money back from your tenants if they can pay you?), if you want to being a ADT client, please make sure you know no only pay ADT monthly bill, you need to pay the city false alarm bill that's the hiding amount no one knows how much until you get the bill, if you forget to disable the alarm by yourself(if you don't have good memory keep forget the entre the code when you get home), the false alarm on the police come over, you will get a bill from the city, it is $100 at 1st time, $200 at 2nd times, $300 at 3rd time. . ..and keep add. Up. . ..soon or later, your money don't need to wait the thieves broking your house already stealing out by those false alarm bills, that's why a lot of the people sign for ADT for a while and cancel the service, when you sign up for ADT, they only care their monthly bill from you, they do NOT care if you have eviction or how much you need to pay to the false alarm bill. . .
