Reminds me of the Lufttanza heist years ago at a NYC airport...
I can understand the "low profile" approach by a courier once in a while to moving the product but to let
8 guys ruin your day in 3 minutes...don't know what to say except they must have a great insurance policy.

Do ya break up a shipment into smaller chunks so if one gets hit you don't lose the whole thing, or do you do one big one to reduce opportunity for heist?
I gotta wonder if for $50million an Ins. carrier wouldn't have some say so in the security arrangements?
I gotta also recall an old Bonanza, or was it Gun Smoke, where some nar-do-well failed wanna-be gold miners finally struck it rich, only to have their find stolen during transport off the stage line. Fortunately, the stage line had real good insurance to cover any custom's property loses.
But then questions cropped up as to whether all that gold was ever really, really in the strong box that got loaded and stolen.
And even if any gold had ever been discovered.
Even if the diamond shipment was legit, $50million could sure temp lot of folks to be part of an inside job.
I'm also thinking, even they say "heavily armed", since no "human contact" was involved, even if they were caught they might not be looking at much time in prison. Breaching the airport and attacking the plane might be more of a crime than the theft of the (grossly overvalued) cargo.
On another note, I hear that since the value of diamonds is completely tied to their ad campaigns and DeBeers only releasing tiny amounts of their horde, the "reality" value of diamonds is at most 5% of the "press release price". Just few decades ago no Japanese brides even thought about diamonds, much less for their wedding, now size of the "rock" involved is a major status point in weddings in Japan, all from DeBeers "PSYOPs".
My question is: HOW MUCH REWARD (in 'clean money') is being offered for recovery, arrest and conviction, etc in this case by Ins. or others?
Also a little surprised they could attack a jet (including actually 'touching' it even) in the airport and all get away so clean. Obviously, so could a terrorist. I'd hoped such an attack would need to be a "one way mission" like 9/11 at least.
PS-Doesn't remind me of Lufthansa Heist, that was all about forcing those on duty to do your bidding, and needed "people skills". We got no idea what language the Diamond Heist guys spoke, if any.Last edited by Squid; 02-19-2013 at 12:44 PM.

It's far time someone creates a diamond detector! We have metal detectors, x-ray machines and even bomb sniffers. Someone should invent one and let me sell it
We would both no doubt be the richest guys around!
