Default isn't having shoplifter "make" the LP guy a problem, especially at smaller posts?

Take this ad, looks like they have two stores.

    http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/sec/3612175725.html

Unless they got like 6 VERY part time LP agents I'd think becoming "known" would be a problem, especially if shoplifters 'case' the store and talk among themselves. If you see the same "shopper" in the same store doing nothing 3 hours apart...

I haven't heard about a lot of "travel" being required in LP agent ads, or even "reliable personal vehicle required" to bounce to different stores.

All the ads seem to hint at particular locations.

I'd think LP might be a field where a bigger guard company with many agents would have a contract with many small stores to send different LPs to different stores to keep it "fresh faces".

If you are "known" and it keeps the thieves out, then you are doing LP. Loss PREVENTION, got it? Not Loss Arrester.

no, wrong, the whole point of UNDERCOVER is they don't know if the person standing nearby is LP.

If they "make" the LP then they know when he is on far side of store, or on break or in the bathroom, etc.

You understand they would "make" a guy in a uniform and badge and that is "LP" but not what I'm talking about.

Similarly, if a Narc is "made" that prevents drug sales on that corner at that time, but his being "made" pretty much defeats the whole "undercover" thingy.

Undercover isn't about scaring off bad guys overtly like uniformed, it is to a certain extent put FUD in minds of bad guys, as well as make actual arrests and property recovery.

I've always wondered if those "mystery shopper" ads that sprung up everywhere were more a FUD/psyh ops thing. You don't need to hire the "mystery shoppers", just flood ads so your sales forces THINKS the next customer might be a MS.
