COOL, however I've heard of some semi-official USCG course handing out shotgun certs.

I would hope it is not like the Firearms Permit Handgun Cert
where you would shoot 50 rounds and call it qualifying.
Definitely want something like P.O.S.T or Military.
Would be useful for Section 8 Housing where its normal for a stabbing or shooting.Last edited by macguard; 01-31-2013 at 12:10 AM.

Can't find it now but it looked like the BSIS handgun, more or less.
Something about 5 shots prone with slugs at 25 yds, 5 shots w/bird shot, drills where a slug is inserted in middle of 5 shot course.
Training broken down more or less like 2 day handgun course.

This is a proposal only at this point. Don't get too excited.
The USCG doesn't hand out shotgun certs. I don't know where you got that, but then again, squid, you usually don't know what the hell you are talking about.

Pretty interesting indeed. I do believe that providing trained competent security personnel with the capability to stop an active shooter/active killer scenario is a wise idea, particularly for those SO's working in malls, schools, transit stations, public attractions and events, etc, where these types of events tend to take place. Unfortunately, I don't see this taking off in such a gun restrictive state as California, and if it even then I don't see this happening for quite some time, possibly years.

USCG/shotgun story comes from a guy who re-qualified me.
I believe it was some training for armored car guys and he did mention it wasn't connected to CA BSIS, and he wondered if it would 'mean anything' if something "happened".
It still seems a mystery how armored car guys seems to be able to go around with shotguns but other guards don't.

As a prior member of the USCG, I can assure you that the USCG does not- nor are they legally permitted- to certify anyone to carry anything in a private capacity. The USCG provides many different certification courses from a boating safety and first-aid/CPR/AED perspective, but as far as law enforcement and weapons are concerned, they do no such thing.

Squid,
He was FOS.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
Armored car security have them for the defense of the car and cash, they don't carry them around.
You really need to go to school and learn some things...
CombatCoastie,
ME1 ret'd here.

So if I've got a CA exposed firearm card and are otherwise 'all good' then I can drive around with a loaded "long gun" in my vehicle (within reach) as long as I don't "carry it around"?
Try it and tell us what the outcome was after a "police contact".
Is it that the guy "in the box" can have a loaded long gun because he ain't in "driver's compartment"?
Or that the shotgun IS "locked up" and unloaded and they just hope to 'act fast' if a gun battle erupts???
Yes, I'm pretty sure they will ask all about the Long Gun when they see it not all locked up in a gun case.
When I get around to it, I'll email this question to BSIS.
But they tend to only 1/2 answer part of a several part question, one 1/2 answer to an email, so you gotta phrase it just right.

No. Your gun card only applies to your handgun. Really, how stupid are you...wait. Never mind. Do you wonder why BSIS doesn't reply to you? Don't.
