Ive always been interested in security and surveillance type work. Currently I am working as loss prevention for a big box retailer. Recently I have thought about changing my line of work and working in the security or surveillance area for a casino. I really think that this would be a good line of work and would have a lot of room for improvement vs the corporate structure of loss prevention.
From what I could find, a lot of senior management jobs such as director of security of surveillance require a bachelors degree in business admin as well as experience in the field. Does anyone have any advice as to how to get into the field or where to start? Looking around online I haven't been able to find much information about job openings or requirements.

I have two co-workers that worked in casino security. It's a tough job and every mistake you make could cost your job. The stories I have heard of people losing their jobs are simple things you could overlook, like accidentally letting in a minor or even offending a high roller. I know in Illinois you have to have a gaming license as well. Some are armed and some aren't.
This is all I really know.

Thanks for the tips. Like I said, I'm thinking about getting into surveillance rather than floor work so I should be fine.

That was really a tough job to go that long away from the people for the sake of the job. This will look like a task which is immense that the security guard can't provide the total security for the people who are in requirement, and sometimes due to a lengthy distance the things can be happened out of his coverage.

I just started a casino security job on Tuesday. I'm only 1 week into a 5-week training process, so we'll see how it goes.

I stand as an ordinary citizen. I have no right to; detain, interrogate or otherwise interfere with your personal property-... basically all that means is I'm a cop."-Officer Ernie

I wanted to get in to the new Hollywood Casino Columbus here in Ohio but the pay is about $10/HR or so. Shame on Penn National.
