Hello all, KDoD here, and boy has it been awhile since I've posted on here! Hello everyone!
Now that that's out of the way, I'm currently seeking employment with Valor, and I'm curious to know if anyone else on here works/has worked for them. If so, could you give me a heads up in regards to use of force, what we're allowed to carry (I'd like to carry my 3D Mag), and how you feel about the company in general.
Thanks!

Valor
KDoD,
Never worked for Valor, but they have several of the mall contracts back home, and they seem to carry the standard mall security fare (radio, gloves, handcuffs, flashlight). They used to carry OC at one of the sites, but as of recent, haven't seen any of them with it on their duty belts anymore. The mall closest to me has an SOP that they are required to wear their headgear while out on patrol, which looks rather silly in my opinion (they wear the bus driver style headgear). Can't really give any insight on use of force, as they work closely with the local PD, and there seems to almost always be a uniformed PO there, either on-duty or working off-duty. The few times I've seen detention or ejection, local PD has always been right there with them. But, having worked mall security myself in a former life, I can almost guarantee that any use of force is an absolute "last" option, after all other attempts to de-escalate have failed, and only the level needed to protect your life or the life of another. I'd say common sense is probably their guide; due to having minimal tools to utilize in a hostile situation, being a good witness and relaying accurate info to a dispatcher for responding police is probably the primary objective in most situations.
Overall, they seem to be a decent outfit, and do a pretty good job of keeping things under control to include strict enforcement of underage restricted hours on evenings and weekends. Previous company, IPC International, got the boot for letting things get out of control.
Take care and good luck,

I applied last year, but took the job im with instead due to higher pay. From what I've seen out in Boston, OC,, cuffs (although I was told they try very hard to never use them ?) And small flashlights. As for UOF policy, couldn't tell ya. They seemed squared away from my interactions with them.

I worked with Valor 6-7 years ago. Seemed pretty decent, pay was average. Carried radio, keys, gloves, and flashlight... No cuffs or OC where I was at. Left to work at a state prison. Feel free to ask any questions, I answer 'em if I can,

Thanks for the speedy replies everyone.
At this particular mall, the officers only carry a radio and cuffs, and most have small flashlights (non issue). I would assume that carrying a 3D on me would be fine, unless there is a size limit for flashlights.
Speaking of that, if there was one, where would that information be located? Post orders? I read the manual and it's not in there.

I would assume Post Orders, or may have to ask the Super... I don't recall a size limit, but I was a broke 18 yr old and had a dollar store cheapie.

Well, after wearing the Maglite for a few days, I've decided to shelf it for something smaller.
Anyone have any recommendations for a good, semi-cheap flashlight? Preferably with a holster :P

I use Surefire, never been happier. Streamlight when I need something 'heavy' depending on post assignment.

I haven't heard anything bad about Valor.
As for flashlights I carry a 500 lume Surefire Fury.

I worked for Valor at Iowa's largest mall from 2004 to 2007. Valor had the contract during and after the construction phase. We were issued a medical pouch, and a Minimag flashlight. No handcuffs or OC. Their Use of Force was extremely limited, we weren't really allowed to do much. Would I recommend working for them? Probably not.
