    Default IAHSS Basic Certification

Has anyone here received this? Most of it is common sense stuff. I am going to study before I take the test, but does anyone have any advice on the test itself?

I'd like to know the same thing. How do I test and stuff? My wife is an RN and I would like to try to get hired on where she works, and this is one of the certs they like you to have.

    Default IAHSS Basic Test

If you goggle IAHSS you will find a website that you can order the Basic book. Study the book and then apply for the test.
The test is not easy but can be completed in about an hour.
I took the test recently and there were 100 questions and to be honest some seemed to be out of the blue.. but our hospital requires us to take and pass this test.

We are considering requiring all of our officers to complete the course so I have only seen testing samples. Looks like it covers basics and only dips into advanced security techniques. I believe there is a secondary test for supervision that covers more of an HR side of security. Tests and study guides sure are pricey but well worth it considering the knowledge gained.

There are actually three steps of testing.
Basic, Advanced and Supervisory. Each step harder and more intense than the prior. Good luck in training your team.

Took it yesterday. It is a lot harder than I expected. You only have 75 minutes to answer 100 questions. Of course you can use open book. but spending too much time looking up the answers can be disastrous. I had to rush the last ten minutes and answer 30 questions. I passed with an 82%.

The test can be taken on-line, or a paper test can be sent out.

I went the paper test route. I sat in my bosses office while taking the test to keep it honest, but still took the test locally.
The finished test was sent in and after about two weeks the results arrived in the mail.
Yes, I passed it...... Whooooo hoo

I know this thread is a couple months old, but for the benefit of anyone reading this later on looking for information, the IAHSS basic certification test has many questions that are more-or-less "common sense" if you have any experience as a security/police officer whatsoever. There are many questions that are based on specific Join Commission policies/guides so if you want to get these right, I highly suggest you actually read the accompanying book first prior to taking the test. The test can be taken online individually, or your department can set up a proctored group test for a discounted rate. All the information is at www.iahss.org.
