    Default "Elevator" Boots?

I have an acquaintance who's going to work in a fairly tough bar as a bouncer and he asked me something I have absolutely NO idea how to answer:

He's about 5'11 and he wants to add a "couple of inches" to his height at work, so he asked me if there are any "good elevator work boots". I have absolutely no idea whether there's any such boots at all, let alone "good ones".

Anyone? (You can PM me if you'd rather not give any of your secrets away.)

I have seen these recently on TV.

I'd bought some riding boots at Walmart that added over an inch to my height, they were too big so I added an insole to help fill up the inside of that stiff boot which added another 1/2 inch. Not very comfortable though; which didn't matter to me as I got them for whem I'm sitting on my motorized two-wheeler.

Are these ok? I think Gene Simons is selling them on ebay.

ST, I would advise your friend against this. Any footwear that considerably changes your height in any way also changes the angle at which your feet and ankles contact the ground. This can create instability. Without extensive practice in all aspects of standing/walking/running/balancing (and I mean EXTENSIVE practice; for an example, simply look at any woman who doesn't wear high heels frequently... when placed in heels, they move more hesitantly and are prone to missteps), this instability will lead to vulnerability, especially in a quick-alert scenario like a bar fight. The possible added intimidation from being taller is completely offset by this vulnerability; and I say "possible" because taller is not always viewed as intimidating, especially to someone who is inebriated. It could also be seen as challenging, which is the last thing you want in a bar fight situation.

I have been working as a bouncer and security manager for nightclubs and bars for nearly 15 years. I have worked in some pretty rough places: hip-hop clubs, biker bars, karaoke bars, gay bars. I am 5'8". The only advantage I could see to having a height boost would be being able to see over the top of the crowd.

Thanks, peeps. I'll pass your comments along. I personally don't think height is nearly as important as demeanor and competent skills, and I've told him that as well.

My 5.11 tactical Attac 6" zip w/ Velcro strap boots are by far the best boots and bang for the money, they have an officers toe and sides for that "spit shine" look, yet their made for the "trail" the rest of the way. The best boot you'll ever wear, they look sharp and are very comfortable, the Bates (MFG) TAC boots are twice the cost and less boot for the money. At $89.95

    it's a real winner..

Dang, I thought you we're talking about 5/11 tacs, elevator boots??
