Please note that I very specifically limited my statement to "in my area" Colorado has very specific laws about what a security guard can and cannot wear and unless they are doing LP they must be in uniform

You sound like just another asshole that gives us crap and rattles off none sense while being dragged to the back room. Funny how your type never wins? lol
Apparently I do know the limits of their authority

    Colorado Shoplifting Laws

SECTION 1. 18-4-407, Colorado Revised Statutes, is amended to read:

18-4-407. Questioning of person suspected of theft without liability. If any person TRIGGERS AN ALARM OR A THEFT DETECTION DEVICE AS DEFINED IN SECTION 18-4-417 (2) OR conceals upon his person or otherwise carries away any unpurchased goods, wares, or merchandise held or owned by any store or mercantile establishment, the merchant or any employee thereof or any peace officer, acting in good faith and upon probable cause based upon reasonable grounds therefor, may detain and question such person, in a reasonable manner for the purpose of ascertaining whether the person is guilty of theft. Such questioning of a person by a merchant, merchant's employee, or peace or police officer does not render the merchant, merchant's employee, or peace officer civilly or criminally liable for slander, false arrest, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, or unlawful detention.
If you walk up to me not in uniform I ask to see credentials, well with in my rights.

If you show me credentials I ask if you are detaining me and why, well with in my rights

If you tell me are not detaining me I leave. You just told me you weren't detaining me how am I not with in my rights?

If you tell me you are detaining me I ask to see the manager and a real cop and refuse to answer any and all questions still well within my rights.

You put your hands on me for any reason I am going to defend myself and in Colorado I would be 100% justified in using deadly force.

You won't be "dragging" me anywhere

I've worked with "that guy" before. He ended up going through the local police academy on his own dime and not getting hired by any agency. Last I heard, he was contemplating a move out of Florida. This same guy, when we worked section 8 together and we were required by the company owner to wear tactical vests with his company dba displayed instead of the company patch, used to stand around asking questions of the residents, with his weapon in the cross draw vest holster, tapping the butt of the weapon with his fingers. I told him that was going to create a problem. He also installed lights in his POV and had the red and blue lenses ready to go, just waiting to get the call that he was hired by a local department. "That guy" worries me because I think that eventually, his eagerness will get him or someone else hurt.

Section 8 / Apartment security is one type I have absolutely no experience, nor have I really entertained the idea.

I'm a security guard same as you guy; the difference appears to be that I am very cognizant of the fact that I am NOT a real cop.
