What amazed me was the effort he put into it - the whole switching the labels, etc. Man, if you have that much time on your hands, build the kits!

Switching the barcodes is not an uncommon practice. Even the "soccer-moms" are doing it.

Indeed. Can't tell you the number of barcode printers I've had police confiscate from the trunks cars, from minivans, from the back of station wagons, from inside small box trucks... Checking barcodes for authenticity is something I regularly train employees in.
