Disabled Shoplifters

Anyone encounter any shoplifters without legs or arms and
you caught them stealing? Any disabled shoplifters?

I encountered a guy today at a grocery store on a wheelchair missing a leg
and I caught him stealing a bottle of alcohol and he wheel'ed away.

I gave chase and the manager in charge told me to back off and let him go.

What do you guys LP's normally do in this situation? Arrest him or just recover the merchandise?

Handling/processing disabled shoplifters is no different than any others. The only problem is dealing with the paperwork and charging process if the office is not wheelchair accessible. I've worked for retailers who built the LP offices to be handicap accessible.

I never did anything differently when a disabled shoplifter was apprehended... funniest thing is when i had a old lady on a electric store cart, she fails to pay for concealed merch then leaves. When I approaced her she hit the gas and rammed me with the cart. I just picked the front wheels off the ground an wheeled her into the office

There's this homeless guy missing one leg below the knee and using walking canes at one of my sites, and caught him one time trying to steal a six-pack of beer. Nothing exceptional about it, dealt with him as with any other shoplifter and he went peacefully.

My general policy in dealing with arresting or removing disabled subjects is the same as with everyone else, scaling accordingly given the subject and the situation.
