Wow I save $800 a year in gas
Okay the Volt costs $25,000 dollars more than the Sonic
It will take me 30 years of gas savings to re coop the cost of the more expensive Volt
And it takes 10 hours of electric power to recharge the Volt to go 25 miles
If you traveling from Taunton, Mass to Orleans on Cape Cod, 75 miles , you would have
to recharge the Volt "3" times before you got to Orleans
The recharge of power for the Volt? Wait to you get your next electric bill
And good luck if your on Interstate 10 from Phoenix to California
no 110 volt electric stations

And do you know any one who has $40,000 sitting around to spend on a Chevy Volt?
If you plunk down $5,000 and that is a lot of money and finance the Volt for 6 years
you monthly payments will be about $600

I helped a friend over the weekend who is going on a long roadtrip, by driving him to Boston's Logan airport,
and drove his Toyota Prius back home. WOW! I Unlike the Volt at least the Toyota Prius has a gas motor.
You could drive from Boston to Montreal and not have to worry about recharging the Volt at HS's home
And the Toyota Prius flies, and is about $12,000 less cash.

Chevy Volt...the coal fired vehicle.....think about it. My daily driver is a Ford Escape.....10-20 miles/gal.

I am, too, or at least I was. I drive a Chevrolet Silverado 1/2 ton pickup to work. Since our oldest is now 16 years old and a licensed driver, my wife and I decided that we wanted a third vehicle with three drivers in the family. Since I had an unmarked Chevrolet Impala that I had until retirement the end of 2010, I originally thought I would get one of those. Now, with someone in power doing things to ensure that fuel prices rise, I thoughts about a Chevrolet Malibu. My wife and I test drove one several days ago. They are a nice vehicle, but their isn't much room in back. With two sons growing like weeds, having a roomy back seat is important to us. I somewhat reluctant drove to a Honda dealership. We test drove a Honda Accord, since that seems to be their biggest 4 door sedan. It handled well, has good fuel economy, and seems roomy in the back seat. If all goes well, I will be getting a 2010 Honda Accord this Saturday through an auto broker that I have used in the past.

I like Hondas. Our Element has been a great investment - one of the first to hit the West Coast in 2003 and looks like we just drove it off the showroom floor. Easy to maintain and reliable. Good mileage, but not award-winning. Dealer service is excellent and not too outrageously priced as far as dealer service goes. If I need to leave the car, even over a weekend, I get a loaner for a flat fee of $10, which saves me from all that business of having to arrange to be picked up, only having one car for two drivers who have to go in opposite directions, etc.

If the Accord purchase doesn't pan out, Jim, you might want to take a look at a Pilot for your family.

ST and Curtis: While waiting to have an Oil Change on my bride's Equinox I walked around the Chevy dealer's lot
Not one car, Impala, Equinox, Malibu, Cruze, Sonic, is 100% American made. The computer in my wife's car came from Japan. When the earthquake struck Japan last year, the Chevy Colorado assembly plant in Louisana had to halt prouduction because of parts from Japan.

Chevrolet Sonic assembly plant is in Ohio, but parts all over the world. Mexico, and the funky Canada
Sonic parts are 44% made in the USA.

ST would not shock me your Honda is more American made then some Domestics. Honda assembly in Ohi.
Hyundai assembled in Alabama??

I saw someone with a Malibu the other day and a bumper sticker. "Built in the USA"

Many of the auto manufacture's electronics are made in Japan. Ford had serious problems in their "My Touch" and navigation systems. They still haven't fully recovered their inventory stock levels.
