    Yea and they would do the whole if you dont well have to let you go... Even though I had already worked 50-60hrs that week. Course sometimes I didnt mind seeming that I only made like 7.75 an hr so some overtime wasnt bad.

    Yeah but oh don't you get chewed out when they eventually catch up with you! besides my Boss was smart enough to use a phone that didn't send it's user id

    Well I think thats why the boss and field supervisor dont want me as a floater and gave me a permenant post,they always seemed to call for me to come work at the most inconvient times.

    Now my post superviser has called a few times and iv gotten to where i'll just ignore it. He gets pissed about it and even wants to know if theres other numbers to reach me at. I said nope the cell is the only one. I dont have to answer the phone when I dont want and I dont have to come to work when im off. Nonetheless he came in bitching cause I didnt answer.

    Not answering your phone is an immature way to handle this situation - and since a child of seven would know exactly what you're doing you're not fooling anyone.

    A more mature approach would be to let your supervisor know what days/shifts that you are willing to make yourself available for a call-back if needed, and then simply explain that during other times you can't come in due to other obligations. If you show some willingness to help out at certain times, he's going to be more likely to respect your "no-call" space - and less angry about being dissed the way you're doing now.

    It's called give a little, get a little.

    Incidentally, you might want to think about this:
    * The unemployment rate in this country is over 9%.
    * You're lucky to have a job.
    * You can be replaced by someone who understands that call-backs are just part of the landscape in security (and numerous other fields, such as nursing, for instance), and who is willing to pinch-hit when the team needs him.

    I have been working in the Security industry in Alberta for about 9 months now and the wife is slowly getting used to having the dog sleep on the bed for company. I had moved almost 3 years ago and the only friends I really have work the typical 9-5 Monday to Wednesday shifts while I have a 2 week system (week #1 Wed –Thurs 1700-0700, Fri-Sat 2200-0600 with Sunday and Monday off. Week #2 is Tuesday - Saturday 2200-0600)

    My friends and I play soccer on Monday nights and my wife and I spend every day off I have together just doing things around the house. I got a call to cover a shift one day while in Banff National Park (3 hours from where I live). When I said I was unable to cover the shift due to my location at the current time, I got chewed out, but then told them I had just worked 11 days solid for 96 hours and was spending time with y wife for our 1 year. That shut the idiot up fast (I had booked it off months in advance and even e-mailed them to confirm it was still booked off)

    Last week I got really sick. (Still not 100%). We are not a contract security company so I don't have a long list of floaters. 1 of them was in England recording a music album. Another was in New York city. A 3rd has a baby. His wife works until 21h00. The shifts downtown start at 19h00. He is not available until 23h00. 2 others have other full time jobs & are only available on their days off. My last has a pay as you go cell phone & never has any minutes left. The problem with him is that he is bad need of work, but can never be reached.

    Even my boss has a full time other job with the company.

    Last week I was forced to make the decision to have my guy start at 23h00 instead of 19h00. This was not made easily. With the cuts that have already been made if the owner finds out that he can save 4 more hours a day he will quickly make the cuts, especially with another recession looking like it's coming

    I am going to have to have a talk with my guy who never has the cellphone munutes.

    I'm assuming that you meant Canada, that sucks. I'm also assuming thata there's a bunch of people equally qualified if not more then the guy with the phone issue that will maintain a working phone if you hire them.
