I am wondering if any of you are aware of the NFC technology that is integrated in smartphones. Where you can scan a tag in the Site area, to show management within 10 miles radious of where about you are.

Can you guys please tell me what the flaws of this technology are? Is it accurate? if the scan tags were moved about in the site area, would that be detected by management? or not . For example if guard keeps them on him/her so tagging is easier. Can this be detected by the management where this information is being sent too?

And how accurate is it in terms of locating exactly where the personell are?

The Complaint
The complaint mirrors OV's first lawsuit with an important new element. The core argument remains the same. ObjectVideo accuses Pelco of violating four of its patents. However, we notice one ominous element missing from the complaint in the first lawsuit. Specifically, the role and liability of end users is cited:

"Pelco indirectly infringes at least [certain claims of OV's patents] by instructing its end user customers to connect the accused Pelco camera products to a personal computer ... As directed by Pelco, the end users of the accused Pelco camera products directly infringe on [OV's patent] by using the combined system, making Pelco a contributory infringer and an inducer of infringement." [emphasis added]

It will be interesting to see how this approach plays out and why ObjectVideo is emphasizing the role and infringement of the end user.

According to: this website, 6696945 and 6970083 are the only patents named in the suit.

When you start DIY Your home security, there are some terms of the alarm systems you should know. The home security alarm system is designed smarter and intelligent. But at the same time, it showed too sophistical for home owners, end-users to DIY.

1. What is entry time & leaving time?

Entry time: It is alarm delay time. Arm the alarm system, and when it is triggered, it will send alarm out after the entry time set. That would enable people to disarm when miss trigger occurred.
Leaving time: It is arm delay time. Arm the alarm systems, and it will start to arm after leaving time set. That will enable people to leave home after house is armed.

2. What is at home arm/disarm and away home arm/disarm

At home arm/disarm: You can set some defense zones into one group, and use remote controller to arm/disarm with one click to set all. For example, you can set 1st floor, outdoor detectors armed but 2nd floor disarmed when you are at home.
Away home arm/disarm: You can set some defense zones into one group and use remote controller to arm/disarm with one click to set all. For example, you can set all floors armed when you are away home.

3. What is defense zones attribution?

The zones attribution include:
1. zone disabled. The alarm panel will not accept any information from this zone.
2. Burglar zones. The zones will be arm/disarmed etc. controlled via alarm panel. Alarm information will be burglar alarm.
3. Medical help: The zones will not be arm/disarmed controlled via alarm panel but 24 hours armed. Alarm information sent will be medical help alarm.
4. Fire alarm zone: The zones will not be arm/disarm controlled via alarm panel but 24 hours armed. Alarm information sent will be fire alarm.
5. Emergency zones: The zones will not be arm/disarm controlled via alarm panel but 24 hours armed. Alarm information sent will be emergency alarm.
6. Gas leakage zones: The zones will not be arm/disarm controlled via alarm panel but 24 hours armed. Alarm information sent will be gas leakage alarm.
7. Door bell zones: The zones will not be arm/disarmed controlled via alarm panel. But only door bell sound will be sent on-site. It will not dial out.

4. Telephone attribution:

Telephone attribution include:
1. Telephone disabled. The system will not dial this telephone when alarm.
2. Voice format: Voice alarm information will be sent when alarm.
3. CID format: CID alarm information will be sent when alarm.
4. Arm Center: Only dial when system is armed.
5. Disarm Center: Only dial when system is disarmed.
6. Low power: Only dial when alarm panel is with low power or AC power off.

5. Setting dialing times:

It is to set the most times of alarm dialing when alarm information is not dealt with.
If the user answered the call and disarmed the system, it will not dial any other telephones.
If the user answered the call and did not disarm the system but other operation, it will not dial this telephone but dial other telephones.

6. Setting ringing times of remote controlling:

You can set the ringing times to accept remote controlling such as arm/disarm, listening etc. via telephone or mobile.

7. Breaking into alarm function:

Breaking into alarm means when telephone line is occupied by telephone extension, the system will break into dial alarm and recover then.

8. Smart defense zones:

It is set to avoid false alarms. When the zones is set as smart zones, the system will not send alarm immediately, but wait till other status occurs in preset time.

In an earlier thread I mentioned a poster on thehighroad.org that complained that he was asked to leave a mall in Pennsylvania when he showed up in full uniform to escort his daughter to her car. His contention was that the mall security took exception to the fact that he was armed (legal in Pennsylvania) and asked him to leave because of it. (To clarify he was on his way home from work, he didn't make a special trip to escort his daughter)

The more I read the thread the less it seems to be a “gun” issue to me.

Maybe it’s because of my background but I see it as an issue of professional courtesy and in my experience professional courtesy dictates that I don’t show up on your security company’s site in my security company’s uniform.

The only real experience I’ve had with this is a company that sent one of their guards to escort female employees to their cars in a parking garage that my employer was contracted to guard.
As long as the guard escorted the employees directly to their cars and took no other action I really had no problem with it.

So in the given situation, you are a licensed security guard on duty on client property and a person wearing the uniform of another company shows up on your site acting in what appears to be a professional capacity.
How do you respond?

What if he is just there as a customer?

Would you go on another company’s site (assuming it was open to the public) in your uniform?

CLEVELAND (AP) — Occupy protesters must ask serious questions about their open-arms policy in light of charges brought against five members accused of trying to blow up an Ohio bridge, a top Cleveland official said Wednesday.
The city declined to renew the group's downtown encampment permit on Wednesday, a denial planned before the bridge plot arrests were announced Monday, said Ken Silliman, chief of staff to Mayor Frank Jackson. The group, which remained by its encampment tent Wednesday night despite a 5 p.m. deadline to leave, can still gather at a spot across the street day or night. Police are monitoring, but no arrests have been made.

A friend of mine stopped at a Wal Mart on the way home from work one night and walked to the middle of some type of argument at the store. According to him the woman in the fight kept yelling at the man and then jumping behind my (in uniform) friend, who kept telling the woman that he didn’t work for Wal-Mart security and wanted no part of her fight.

I just read a thread on thehighroad.org. In which a licensed armed security guard in Pennsylvania was asked to leave a mall when he showed up (in uniform) to pick up his daughter after work.

My question is this

Does anyone here make a point on not leaving work in uniform to avoid such entanglements?
I don’t completely change clothes but I do put on a jacket or a Dickie’s work shirt over my uniform shirt when I leave work for just that reason

PHOENIX (AP) — Federal authorities sued America's self-proclaimed toughest sheriff Thursday, a rare step after months of negotiations failed to yield an agreement to settle allegations that his department racially profiled Latinos in his trademark immigration patrols.

The U.S. Department of Justice officials said the agency filed a lawsuit only once before in the 18-year history of its police reform work. The lawsuit escalates the standoff with Sheriff Joe Arpaio and puts the dispute on track to be decided by a federal judge.
