Anything you buy that will be small enough to wear on your uniform will only record for about 90 minutes, tops, so make sure you get a command record device- as in, switch it on when you need it and leave it off when you don't.

Also, check your local laws regarding recording video and audio. That kind of thing is illegal in a lot of places. I'm not a lawyer, so I will not be more specific than that. Speak to a real lawyer who knows the local laws.

For $70.99 plus shipping, you can get a camera inside a pen (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/656264-REG/Swann_SW234_PC2_DVR_421_PenCam_Mini_Video.html)(wa rning: commercial link). It'll record 15FPS, which looks terrible when you're on the move, but it'll be just fine for face-t-face conversations.

Since you are in Alberta, Canada here's a link to some information (http://www.bccla.org/privacy/privacy3-8.html) that may be of some help.

Hello, you can buy a pen camera from Tele brands at very low cost. Its 3 GB and cost you around 50$. :)

I use digital audio recorders. They work just as good if you do some simple things.

Example... if going up to a noise ordnance I will stop prior to the location and usually record some video with my cell to show how far away I am and that it is still audible from this distance. Also I will activate my recorder while on this video and talk the date, time, what going up to do etc into it. When talking to the suspects I ask for id and read their name off out loud as in "And you are John Doe, dl # 4325325325, correct?" so it's on the audio and they confirm it so it is known this is who you are talking to.

Again, check local laws but if they don't have a expectation of privacy it is usually a non-issue. Think about it like photography laws... do you have a right to be on this property, is it something anyone could hear/see without the use of special zoom lenses or amplified recording equipment? Things like that.

For my personal residence I have the legal sign's posted for audio/video recording just so it's all legal (in TX, old house in LA it wasn't required to notify people) but obviously most of us work at locations that are public access so it's a different setting.
