Just curious if anyone ever participated in the CLEP process.

I was thinking about checking into this further and maybe giving it a shot myself but I was curious to know if anyone had any suggestions, pointers, thoughts, etc. to help increase one's success rate in passing the exams. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I know many Sailors who attempted to CLEP a subject rather than take an 8, 12, or 16 week course. In many cases that I know of, the Sailor had an outstanding general education requirement to complete an associate's degree. Several years ago I talked with a testing officer through the Navy College Office who administers the CLEP exams and he showed me data that indicated less than half who attempt the examinations pass. His assumption held that people simply did not adequately prepare for the exam.
Many educational institutions will allow you to sign-up for a CLEP examination even if you are not a registered student; of course, there is small fee for the exam. Also, not all educational institutions will accept a CLEP examination in place of their equivalent course. One may also encounter roadblocks at the graduate level as a fellow student in my business law class was forced to sit through a class he had already challenged through an examination.

Thanks for the feedback. You've generally helped provide the rest of the story because I was not aware of the fact that some institutions may not accept CLEP examination college credits. It's definitely something to be aware of.
