I was recently tasked with finding a solution to put a covert camera in an office to see if we can find out who is disturbing employee equipment.

now the company i work for uses this

http://www.wilife.com/

I was wondering if someone had something better, something they recommend, or just suggestions so i can get a feel for whats out there.

Thanks

Wilife is awesome, except you have to have a computer running all the time with the decoder connected to it. If that isn't an option, get a DVR/camera combo. You can get pretty high resolution camera built into a clock, smoke detector, hardcover book, or what have you with an SD card based DVR and rechargabkle internal battery. This is perfect for covert investigations if you want to take the camera with you afterwards. A good example is here (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/608304-REG/Bolide_Technology_Group_BM3097_BM3097_Air_Purifier _Hidden.html) (commercial link).

I use an analog pin hole camera that goes to a decoder. they work great we have put them in data ports, drop tile ceilings, fire detectors and have a real good picture.

Welcome mchl_dye. I've been in your hospital, but it was 5 years ago. Just wanted to let you know that unless those fire detectors are functioning fire detectors as well, you are breaking fire codes. Arkansas follows the International Fire Code.

I know they sell them, but they're not legal to use in the US, and I would assume most European and other developed nations, who probably use IFC.

Discussed here beginning on post 15.

I finally got my copy of the 2006 International fire code.
Section 901.4.4 Appearance of equipment
Any device that has the physical appearance of life safety or fire protection equipment but that does not perform that life safety or fire protection funtion, shall be prohibited.

So, you can hide a camera in a working smoke detector, but you can't use those fake smoke detectors with the camera in it. Same thing with the sprinker heads with cameras. They gotta work.

I'm not sure if the exit lights are considered a life safety device, or just part of building code.

"put a covert camera in an officer.." Is that a surgical procedure? Sorry, couldn't resist!

I know that the emergency lights have to be functional and i had our fire safety guy check with the fire marshall to see if there was a problem. the fire marshall didnt have a problem with us using this because we have actual fire alarms in the rooms that we use the covert fire alarms in.

I can just see it now, "its a simple procedure S/O Jones, it wont hurt a bit, PLUS we will give you a surveillance differential of $.25 and a lollipop"
