It was confirmed this afternoon that the fourth police officer shot with an assault rifle had died. According to the news reports one of the SWAT officers was shot was wearing a military style protective helmet and the round penetrated both sides of the helmet.
Routine traffic stop, two dead officers in a matter of seconds. A citizen reported to 911 of two officers shot.
Two SWAT members dead after the suspect was found barricaded in a nearby apartment building.
Oakland Police and all law enforcement departments as well as private security organizations mourn their loss. Reflect, there but for the grace of God go we.
Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and comrades.
Bill

This is horrible, four good men murdered by a piece of sh*t on parole. When my wife and I were discussing the incident she told me how shocked she was that the crowd was taunting the officers as they lay shot and dying (according to the local news reports). I wasn't shocked, the residents of Oakland have no respect for police officers. Their values are upside down.

Where is Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson when a black man murders four white police officers? I would be willing to bet my house that there will be no protests or riots over the death of these fine officers.

I apologize for the rant. Please stay safe and watch your six.

DeputyJ, I don't think you need to apologize for that, nor do I consider it a rant. As a good young liberal, I still think they're both b@st@rds, and you're absolutely right. There will be no protests, and if Sharpton or Jackson speak up it will only be to say what a poor victim the parolee was and how it's society's fault. Even I know there's a difference between liberal and stupid.

God rest them.

mjw and others. It is my earnest hope the ATF trace the assault weapon from the dead man's hands to where he obtained it and then continue the process. If this was indeed a "straw purchase," the full weight of the federal government must come down hard on this gutless wonder and the vermin like him. As the dictionary definition further states, vermin are difficult to get rid of. That might be a naive wish on my part as there seems to be a weapons bazaar in every big city.
This person just got out of jail on parole for assault with a firearm. Therefore, a compound felony, as if that really mattered.
Enjoy the day,
Bill

I agree Bill. The news I received said that each Officer was shot with a different weapon. If thats true they should find out where he got all of the weapons and hang the bastids. One of the things that gets me about this situation is the fact that the parolee didn't suffer enough. My heart and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of the Officers.

This makes me harken to a post on a Fugitive Recovery forum I freqent. Short version follows....

(circa 2006, somewhere in the midwest I believe)

During a routine(?) traffic stop a sheriff deputy is gunned down by the driver of the vehicle he pulled over. Later, SWAT catches up with the mutt and unloads 68 rounds in the process of subduing him.

When a reporter asked the sheriff why his deputies shot the man 68 times, he replied, "That was all the ammo we had at the time."

Very sad. My heart goes out to the families.

I'm sure there will be a very thorough multi-agency investigation on this one. News I hear says two weapons but I'm sure we'll find out exactly what happened in time.

Oakland is really two cities. Theres the poor area where this happened, then there are the oakland hills with the million dollar houses.

Gunny, thank you for posting those pictures. They, according to their bio's, were the cream of the crop.
When you go up against 7.62 and the vest and head gear will stop standard handgun rounds, the outcome is preordained.
Enjoy the day,
