GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A Brinks security employee was shot during an attempted robbery near the entrance to the Old Navy store at the Friendly Center on Monday morning, Police Chief Tim Bellamy said.

Police responded shortly after 10 a.m. and blocked off an area around the store.

A Brinks armored truck was at the curb outside Old Navy, and police said they believe the truck was making a scheduled pickup.

Bellamy said investigators believe the shooter took off with several bags, although they're unsure if there was any money in them.

According to police, the shooter fled in a dark-colored car. Reports indicated he was wearing hospital scrubs and a wig.

The victim is in critical condition [now dead], according to police. No other injuries have been reported.

Brinks needs to bring up the salary on these men and women
who risk their lives daily to transport money for them.

These guys earn $9.00 or $10.00 an hour. In Miami there
has been a few that have been shot and killed.

Yeah, and vests wouldn't hurt for armored van guards and drives too.

To echo Gunny,

Reat in peace brother .............

Brinks has a starting salary of around 12.50 an hour for an unarmed driver. Once you're certified/armed, and are doing the actual transport of cash and valuables, your salary goes up. There's another raise for being certified to service ATMs as well. Brinks provides all employees with OPTIONAL exterior ballistic vests at no cost.

Another national provider of armored car services, however, Dunbar- they start at $9.00 per hour and do not provide raises until after 1 year of satisfactory service to the company. They do not provide armor for their employees, but participate in a 50/50 purchase program where they will pay the total cost of any vest the employee wants up front, but will recollect half the cost in increments via the employee's paycheck.

No matter what, neither one of the companies provides enough money or armor to be transporting the kind of cash they expect you to transport (anywhere between 10 to 100 million dollars at any given time.

Sounds like he was working alone outside the truck. Should be one doing the ATM while another provides cover, IMHO, because the scumbags quickly learn that no one will open a door to exit the truck once an incident begins. Is it hard to do this right, or is it just hard to do it cheap?
