I have encounter some problems with the Intellex DVR which i have installed in one of my site.

Total number of DVR: 14
DVR running: around 2years
DVR hard disk: from 160GB change to 800GB

1. Three of them, the time is 12hrs behind the rest. And i use remote client to synchronize the time, but the time of the three DVR do not change.

2. Another DVR always hang almost every 2 months. After reset the power, back to normal.

3. So far 2 DVR have sent for repair due to power supply down.

Can anyone advise me of the above and also how to maintain the DVR for better performent and longer life span.:)

Thank You

Is there a place to set the timezone? If your timezone is 12 hours off then even though your setting it, it will revert to the time 12 hours away. I have actually seen one brand that comes factory defaulted to Taiwan or where ever it was made.

Make sure the remote client isn't being blocked by a corporate firewall.

What version are your Intellex systems? This can tell us a lot...

I can give you some solid answers for your concerns... We repair roughly 300+ Intellex systems per month (we are not American Dynamics by the way :)), so dependent on the version of your Intellex systems, there are remedies available to solve the above problems.

Let us know...

That seems like a scary amount.

It is not that bad... :) considering the fact that most problems are related to power supplies and hard drives (items with moving components mainly)... Intellex systems are not that complicated anyway compared to others... :D

Considering the above fact that these systems are around two years old, then you have a solid case with the manufacturer that these systems are under warranty! It does not matter where you bought it or who sold them to you, as the manufacturers warranty does not change. I know that most everyone sell them with one year warranty and then charge extra for additional warranty... However, American Dynamics warranty on these systems are three years on everything except hard drives that come with two years warranty.

Well, chances are very good that you probably have either older version 3.2 or older version 4.0 systems. If so, there are several important patches that you must apply to these systems. These patches came early last year that attest to these problems and also covers another important issue - DayLight Savings Time for North America. If you did not apply these patches, then you should, as it solves many other issues not associated with DayLight Savings time... I also will recommend to check the date and the time in the BIOS instead of through Microsoft OS...

Here is a url that documents where to get these patches and how to apply them correctly - http://www.cctvhelp.com/showthread.php?t=191

2. Another DVR always hang almost every 2 months. After reset the power, back to normal.

Are you using any UPS systems with these Intellex units? We have seen this problem cause by UPS with less than 350VA capacity. Another common issue causing this problem is the internal power supply, which most likely is on its way out... I will recommend to change the UPS (if available) or arrange replacement of the power supply with higher capacity than what Intellex systems come with... Use at least 450W (Intellex systems come with 400W max) and make sure that it is a commercial grade (I can recommend SPI Sparkle Power Supplies with at least 80% efficiency). But then again, since these systems are still in warranty, by replacing them yourself will void such warranty.

3. So far 2 DVR have sent for repair due to power supply down.

Power supply problems with Intellex is a very well known and documented issue. It has gotten much better over the years, but still no sigar :). The main problem is that dependent system hard drive configurations, such system require higher capacity power supplies and if not provided, then they fail... and they do fail during warranty period. Did you have these systems power supplies change by American Dynamics or by someone else?

Well, this is a good question.. Are you computer savvy? If so, there are many things you can do to extend the life expectancy of these systems.

Obviously this does not cover everything, but does give you fairly good feel what you need to do.

Thank You

Thank you for your valuable reply.

My Intellex having a mix version of 4.0 and 4.1

Since i have change the hard drives myself, warranty has been void.:(

I sent my intellex to American Dynamics for repair at a cost as they have void my warranty for changing to hard disk to 800GB.

By the way anyone can advise me on Ccure800 card access system?

Once again thank you:)

Something does not make sense... AD does not have 800GB systems... rather, their higher end dvms series is capped at 750GB using three 250GB drives... So, you should check to see what they did and why they charged. Before they charged, they had to obtain your approval... so, did they?

When you say that you changed the hard drive, was it the system drive or the storage drives?

I will recommend to upgrade them all to their latest 4.2 version at no cost... that will include many fixes and updates that are essential for the system..

Sorry, i change the storage disks myself, not the hard drives.:p That why warranty was void. I was told that for longer period of storage (1month) at 6.5pfs for 16 cameras i have to change the storage disks myself. I have change to 2 x 400GB.

By the way, did you know that you increase the internal storage for the Intellex systems up to 4.0TB (4,000GB)? I thought you should know that...
