I recently acquired a passive infrared-activated trail camera (as in deer trails) and a couple of MURS Alert transmitters to try and combat trespassing, theft, vandalism, drinking/drug abuse (especially by teens), and other crapola that happens along a railroad right-of-way. Haven't had a chance to try them yet, so I can't report on how well the idea works.

Something else I found interesting, if much more expensive, is motion-activated cameras that also send an alert (and image) to one or more cell phones and/or computers. There seem to be two companies making those, Tripwire Systems in Australia, and Graffiti-cam (Law Enforcement Associates) in Raleigh, NC.
I found one Web page that referred to Milwaukee buying ten Tripwire cameras, but I don't recall if it said how they were working out. Some agencies in California seem to have had some pretty good results, including one that bagged a rapist/murderer who had been preying on an elderly housing area.

I'm still sorting out all the information about GPRS/GMS/"G2.5" and the technology behind the concept. (Some cellular providers in my state may not have the technology yet, and those that do may not have the coverage along the entire length of the railroad line.)

Has anyone here had experience with either company's products? Best of all would be if someone has had a chance to compare the two, but I'm not really expecting any replies to that one.
Thanks for any info.

Two more brands I've discovered since the original post: Colorado Video (http://colorado-video.com/index.html), and BuckEye Cam (http://colorado-video.com/index.html) (ATSI). From CVI's main page, go to the Observer IV and Lookout V.

Many differences between the two systems, but I can see good uses for both in helping apprehend people who go into places where they shouldn't go.
