Anyone living in America should be familiar with this book and for a good reason. We are involved in a war that has been declared on us. Why? Well - when I ask soldiers and friends when we were first attacked by terrorists and the Muslims used the Koran as a tool and or excuse to fight, enslave, torture and or kill us – most respond as majority of Americans do. Perhaps Kobar towers, the USS Cole or 9/11.

Check out - Power, Faith, and Fantasy: America in the Middle EastAuthor: Michael B. Oren

The history of America's political, military, and intellectual involvement in the Middle East from George Washington to George W. Bush.

From the first cannonballs fired by American warships at North African pirates to the conquest of Falluja by the Marines--from the early American explorers who probed the sources of the Nile to the diplomats who strove for Arab-Israeli peace--the United States has been dramatically involved in the Middle East. For well over two centuries, American statesmen, merchants, and missionaries, both men and women, have had a profound impact on the shaping of this crucial region. Yet their story has never been told until now. Drawing on thousands of government documents and personal letters, featuring original maps and over sixty photographs, this book reconstructs the diverse and remarkable ways in which Americans have interacted with this alluring yet often hostile land stretching from Morocco to Iran, from the Persian Gulf to the Bosporus. Covering over 230 years of history, Power, Faith, and Fantasy is an indispensable work for anyone interested in understanding the roots of America's Middle East involvement today. 68 illustrations; 4 maps.

This is an excellent reference that will give us a window on the Middle East.
George Santayana, American (Sapnish Born) poet and philosopher stated, "Those who disregard their history are condemned to relive it."
Many in Islam condemn our Bible, yet many Iman refer to the old testament as the "first message," the new testament as the "second message" and the Koran as the "third message." Throughout the Koran there are numerous references to both the old and new testaments and their revered figures. Much of what we know of Mary the Mother of Jesus comes from Chapter 19 of the Koran.
Having been stationed in Morocco for 27-months with several TDYs to other Muslim countries brings a different perspective to one's thinking.
Religion has been used as a weapon for all kinds of weird reasons, many sorry to say, political.
Enjoy the day,
Bill

Religion always has been a simple excuse to take something from a neighbor or a rival. When you take all of these young people struggling to understand the world and their place in and add in elders who are willing to corrupt their idealism and hand them HE, anything can happen and unfortunately, quite often does.
