With that background, why do you want to do LP for Kmart? j/k
I was LP for Sears Essentials (renovated Kmart) here in CA a little over 3 years ago. Starting pay for Loss Prevention Detectives back then was about $8.45 an hour. Not very good honestly. I'm assuming since Kmart and Sears are one company, they pay the same. I'm not sure what the going rate in NC is though.

so i went for my interview and they tell me there are no positions available? i called LP and they said were sorry but the computer schedules our interviews, we don't even know when we are having them. I think its kind of beat up that they are going to make people go out of their way for jobs that are still posted all over the internet. . . at monster, lpjobs.com, careerbuilder etc. . . oh well hopefully it is a sign that i don't want to work for a company like this. . . just needed to vent, but thanks for the replies anyways

I would send them a bill for your time and travel.

Had a similar experience w/Best Buy a while back. That was very unprofessional to say the least. Sounds like they're not too organized...

SO i tried contacting sears holdings human resources and kmart corporate etc to hopefully get a hold of someone higher up to talk about the set up of interviews and applications. what a joke.
I work for a grocery store chain in the southeast called Ingles Markets. I recently spent a day with the director of loss prevention for a college paper. I thought it was a bit odd though, the chain has 209 stores, and only 4 loss prevention investigators. There are at any given time during the day roughly 16,000 employees working in all of the stores. I feel like this is a huge work load for such a small LP team. The director utilizes store analytic software (XBR), reviews background checks, and assists the team in high priority investigations.
The team handles investigative work to disprove workman's comp claims and lawsuits, audits, investigation into anonymous reports, random receipt checks at stores, and robberies or burglaries. Does this seem fitting?
I don't know much about grocery store LP but I do like how much investigative work seems to be involved. I recently got promoted to front end manager and I am hoping that my broad experience of the store along with the bachelors degree i am pursuing will help me land a job with them. I was told that the last investigator they hired was 8 years ago, and he had 10 years of experience with the company and a bachelors degree in criminal justice.
Does anyone have LP experience with supermarkets maybe publix, food lion, krogers, etc?

I know that Giant Food of Carlisle PA (Ahold USA) has about the same number of LP's for a similar number of stores. The LP's are responsible for about the same types of things you mentioned, although the serious stuff would fall upon one of the two LP Field Managers.
