I'd like to know if anyone has any good stories about things that have occured doing LP work? Obviously some details can't be discussed but it would be interesting to hear what goes on out there.

LOL... These are awesome!
After reading through those stories on that website linked above I had to add one of my own, just to boost my ego a little :D Had a very similar story to the one from mall security in regards to the lady with the lost purse...
While on duty at a large supermarket I observed a male tying up store shopping bags with products in them, he was doing this inside his trolley. I then watched him as he placed two big bags from another store over top of the bags and headed to c/o. Here he paid for two small items. I requested that uniform security stop the male and request a receipt, they did so and he said his partner had it in the car, he'd just go get it. Unfortunately the officer was new and didn't see through this line. I followed the male out of the store, not knowing what had happened with the guard and watched him walk calmly around the corner and than take off. Strange I thought.
Back in the store the officer informed me of what happened. Here's the kicker though, he had left the two bags from the other store in the trolley when he took off (I would later discover that he had also left his bike in our stores entry way). On a hunch I phoned the local outlet for the store the other bags belonged to, and low and behold a very shocked but excited LPO told me that the man had been in 20 minutes earlier and had picked up a DVD player which was in one of the bags. However, the other item, a wireless keyboard was stolen, he had attempted to get a refund after selecting the item from the shelf, store staff had refused but given him back the item...
I returned the items to the previous store, exchanged photos and left it at that. We had our goods back, they had theirs (plus one he'd paid for). Later that night after I go off duty the man contacts the supermarket by phone and explains that he had left behind two warehouse bags with the above items in a trolley. Not mention is made of the groceries. The Security guard tells him they were returned to the purchasing store and he could collect them from there. I contacted that other LPO and she told her staff to be on the lookout.
Low and behold, the next day the male walks into the other shop and requests his items, both of them by name. Certainly, store staff say, you'll just need to come to the office to fill in a claims form. Police were called, he was arrested. I got a call from the other LPO and headed into the police station, there I submitted a further report and he was booked on that charge as well. In total he got x2 theft, x1 using a document for finical gain and x1 trespass (he was trespassed from our market when I had caught him the year before stealing $400 odd worth, he had change his appearance so it took me a while to click...).
Anyway it does not end there, I caught him yet again at another market a month later, and he still didn't know who I was... several months later I was in court as a witness as he went not guilty, as he was a non-violent offender he was held in the public seats by a police officer until his case came up. Guess who he choose to sit next to? And he still had no idea who I was... when the judge opened his case, I was introduced to the court, the look on his face was priceless...
Long winded, my bad. That's kept my ego in check for another day :d

The most important thing I remember that happened was at my last job. It was more of a safety issue than anything else though. I was working in CCTV and had been watching 2 associates who were both helping a customer look at a handgun. After watching the guy leave, I'd thought that 1 of the associates was putting the gun back under the counter....but didn't:confused: I watched as he placed the gun back on the counter and as the other associate turned and pulled a box of ammo from behind the counter, taking a round from it! Next, he even put the round in the chamber loading the gun:eek:
Needless to say, I went to my LPM and 1 of the associates was fired that day. What had the potential for becoming a very dangerous situation turned out ok in the end. And all of this was because the associates wanted to see if 1 caliber would fit into another:rolleyes:
