Hi all, I have a PPO license in California and have jobs to provide Loss prevention at a supermarket. My question is do the loss prevention people I hire need a guard card??

Any help will be appreciated,

Thanks,

I do not know the specific laws pertaining to loss prevention in CA, however when I did LP for Sears a couple years ago, we were not required to have a guard card. We did however have to complete a training course through Sears regarding laws and regulations for LP. Being that your employees are contract and not working directly for the store, I'm not sure how that would differ. Your best bet would most likely be to contact BSIS and ask them directly, just to prevent an issue.

Sorry, I'm not sure that helped.

As an example....when you're working for a retailer such as Sears, Home Depot....ect, you do not need a license in California.

If you are a Private Patrol Operator in CA all of your employees that provide any type of security work for your client must have guard cards. If your LP guys where in the payroll of the supermarket and not yours, they would only need a Proprietary Security Officer Registration. That is similar to a guard card, but it's now requiered for all in-house security departments.
