For some unknown reason, I volunteered to give a talk on the topic of CCTV to a general audience.
It'll be about 2 hours, including questions and answers. I figured I'd talk about technology for about 45 minutes, focusing especially on the limitations of CCTV (ie the CSI factor) and spend about 45 minutes on applications (like who needs surveillance and how to choose the right camera and DVR combo).
I need to come up with a title by tommorow.
Any suggestions?
I will, of course, post details of time, date, and location here as soon as I have a definitive date. Admission is free but reservations are preffered. First come first serve.

How about:
"Big brother, what CCTV can do for you" :D
"CCTV technologies and applications, an overview"
"Trends and technologies in the CCTV market"
"CCTV, applications and limits"

How about:
CCTV: Video Surveillance in the real world.
For one thing, the 'general audience' doesn't always know what cctv means.

"Every breath you take, every move you make... we'll be watching you." :D  You could even have a theme song at the beginning of the class.

They just emailed me a description of the talk:
Introduction to Home and Small Business Security & Surveillance
Security is a huge concern for today’s home and small business owner. Cameras that are both fixed and PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom), Digital Video Recorders, web streaming and other recent developments have made surveillance easy and accessible for anyone concerned with their property and safety. We supply many options starting with a nanny cam disguised as a teddy bear to elaborate low light multi camera wireless security systems. With such a bewildering number of system options available this seminar will help you find and identify the perfect solution to fit you needs and budget.
Imagine the security you will have as you vacation on another continent and you log into your home surveillance camera system from the hotels internet connection. You can easily get a quick look at your pet’s welfare, or check for burglary. Perhaps you have a vacation home that you rely on neighbors to give you updates on its well being, you could log into the system and see you’re for yourself in an unbiased fashion exactly what’s going on.
Small business owners have a great stake in security and surveillance. What is going on when you leave the shop in an unfamiliar new hire’s hands? Check the store from home easily. What really happened at 3:43 am when the alarm was triggered? Easily go back into the surveillance archive and pull up the video sequence so you get answers. Businesses, from an office to retail should have some type of security and surveillance system in place.
This seminar will bring you up to date on the technology and how it has rapidly evolved in recent years. Understand the technology, and terminology so you are prepared to consider what you need and how to utilize it.
Full disclosure: I'm basically doing this so when people Google my name, they get this instead of a castle in Germany with the same name as me (and a WWII Nazi general... and I'm Jewish).

"Hello, police. My house was robbed. Yea, sometime in the last 36 hours. But I have the video. It's 2 people dressed in black, with ski masks on. Oh, and I think sparky got a nibble out of one of their legs."
Stuff like that kills me. They always advertise that as your security, when it should always be used in conjunction with an alarm system.

VIDEO IS NOT SECURITY! VIDEO IS EVIDENCE!
That's my philosophy, anyway.
To be fair, the person who wrote this is in marketing- note the "teddy bear camera" reference, which I wanted erased.

Marketing guys are to sales, what architects and engineers are to construction & installation. A bunch of people living in fairyland.
