Hitachi has come up with a rolling robot that scans its surroundings with infrared sensors and cameras. It is likened to R2-D2.

Goodbye job. A robot that doesn't need to sleep, eat, or be checked on to see if all rounds were completed. :(

Ah, but the robot can't think or act for itself and certainly cannot replace a real person, just as a stationary camera cannot.

I can see this being useful as a device for detecting bombs and contraband.

In that case, it will be perfect for WBS. :D

Yes, but it would have improvements over WBS guards because it doesn't require bathing and therefore can't stink, it doesn't leave property to eat or use the bathroom, and it doesn't march into the office and loudly demand a payraise while shouting threats.

Not to mention, it can fill out perfectly prescribed reports, not pick its nose in front of people, or complain about the job to the general public.

Honda, Toshiba, and Hyundai all make security robots. Only one I know of is armed with a taser weapon to engage intruders. These are designed to replace static posts that have only a need of passive observation.

No, really. Plucking nose hairs and scratching your rear are also no-nos.
