Does anyone know who does the Security for Gerdau Ameristeel? Website- http://www.gerdauameristeel.com/
They are a major corporation which owns several stell mills across the Eastern US. The steel mill where I am contracted as a EMT/Security Officer is about to be sold to this company and so far we have no idea from anyone how they handle security. Are they in house, contract or what? Basically, nobody knows if they will pick up our contract after the sale of the plant or if they already have a contract with a large nation wide security company such as Securitaus. I'm not looking for any sensitive or secret info that may cause a security risk. Just wanting to find out if there's a chance we will be working for the new owners or if they already have their own people lined up.

Sorry, I don't. Since you provide EMT duties, as well as security, I don't think a large company would touch that account. Ie: Securitas, etc. Except may Wackenhut, because they can provide EMS personnel to the military through Government Services. But, they don't have "security officers" in WGS, they have federal police officers.

That "EMT/S.O." designation may keep the contract.

Securitas provides EMT/Security Officer services routinely. And we have also lost one account to Securitas. Back in 2004 I was working for my current company as an EMT/SO at a chemical plant about 8 miles from my home. Securitas came in and got the contract. They made it clear that no SOs from our company would be hired by Securitas.
Our Company offered some of the EMT positions at the steel mill about 50 miles away if they were willing to commute. I didn't want to commute and my city had finally passed a tax that meant the Firefighters they cut to parttime were going to be rehired to fulltime so I went back to the Fire Department. About 9 months later things at the FD had turned to crap and I quit and took the job at the steel mill for the Security Company.
I'm hoping that Securitas, or another company, doesn't come in with the new corporation buying the mill and decide to send us all packing.

I'm surprised. Genuinely. Adding "rescue" duties to the contract creates added liability, obviously, and exposes Securitas to more risk. I'd of figured they'd of used one of the spun off companies like their Government Services division to provide anything more than "observe and report."
