This should be interesting? If you must be a member of the security community to belong to these fourms - how will one post?

The way this works is that if people write to me and tell me that they have a security question but aren't in the security business or related closely (IT, studying to be a guard), then I can give them permissions to ONLY post in this forum. They won't be in any other discussions. It's an experiment. And if we don't get much of that, then it may be an experiment which is deleted.

It's been tested out on one of my sister sites the "Ask A Cop" forum on Officer.com, so I thought I'd try it here to see if it has legs.

So far, you're the only one who noticed, though. So maybe the legs aren't there yet...

"Ask a Cop" works because anyone can register on O.com, though, Geoff. Granted, the first time you reply on Ask a Cop, post in the Squad Room, etc... You either better be able to impersonate a cop really well, have some pull, or you're gone.

Lets see how this plays out.

Actually, I like this new catagory and even if it catches on slowly it will be worth it.

You guys are too funny.

One of the reasons I created this is that I have been getting an occassional membership request where people say they want to join because they have a question about security at their home, business, whatever. For a long time now, I've been denying them access and deleting their memberships -- but thought that if I gave them only rights to one forum, they'd be OK, and it just might occassionally trigger an interesting discussion.

Thanks Geoff, that would be a way of putting out useful security information as opposed to what one saw written on a restroom stall wall, or as they used to call it in the military a BS tip.
People should feel comfortable asking a question and receiving a straight forward considerate answer.
