I like the part of the article where they noted that if this particulaer room ever wnet down, it would take California and large portions of the planet down with it.

For those that don't know, this building is MAE-West, Los Angeles, CA and is run by Verizon. There is another "sister" site of MAE-West in San Jose, CA. These two are part of the twelve site MAE backbone of the Internet.

The problem in not properly dressing conductors is the possibility of mutual interference and in the event of power conditioning, raw and conditioned power cables on top of each other.

I did an install a few years ago in Dallas that had a closet nightmare. We had to install 400 cctv cameras along with an access control system with 600 doors and all of the associated equipment. They gave me a 3 foot x 3 foot closet with a 6' hard ceiling. Luckily it turned out nicer than that room. But it was a pain to keep all of the cables straight (approx. 2400).:confused:

Those are funny. When I was overseas I had seen places where everyone just spliced into power wherever they could. Even seen a couple people get jolted trying to "fix" they're splice. Then they wonder why there power goes out so often. I guess they didn't figure that the mains were only rated for so much.

My last survey floored me! The electrical contractor established chassis grounds on all the equipment within the three racks the client was having trouble with. There was no earth ground. The equipment was going bonkers.
I asked a colleague to check my work. Have I lost my mind, do I feel AC ripple and can find no earth ground?
1) I had not lost my mind.
2) I did feel AC ripple, 117 VAC and 25 MA.
3) There was no earth ground. One was installed before we left along with a quality power conditioner. All problems went away.
We may not like it, power problems continue to plague security interests.

I was doing an installation at an Air base. When I was running the cables I got jolted everytime I came in contact with the 2' x 4' ceiling tile metal grid. I notified base maintenance and they said they would "get right on it":rolleyes: . I was called back a couple years later because they had a lightning strike on the building that passed through right where our wire run was and into the ceiling grid. Again everytime I touched something I got jolted. I notified them that if anything goes wrong with the system I will not return until that ceiling problem was fixed.

Oh I am so glad I joined this forum!!!!!!!!!! This is the chit I go through all the time. It is nice to know I am not alone.....

I had a system down type of call... all the cameras were bad with a dual term look to them. I got there and the "on site" tech had made a patch panel out of metel!!!!!!!! The whole system went through it.... After replacing with a homemade plexiglass patch panel the video was perfect.... go figure...

Dude!!!! those bulkhead BNC's cam with rubber washers for a reason LOL
