An article describes an account given by a security guard who was the first on the scene after a woman was stabbed in the neck. He tried to render aid, but the bleeding was too profuse and she died.

Tragic indeed. I think the security guard did all that he could have done. Deep neck wounds are extremely difficult to treat because other first aid methods normally employed to manage serious bleeding in other parts of the body, other than applying pressure to the wound, may not be an option or be effective since the injury is directly affecting the blood supply to the brain. At least the s/o didn't let her die alone. :(
