This was a rather interesting web artical about the industry. Kind of puts light on the whole thing. And few dark clouds too.

I had read something from another union, the DHS Security Police Officer's Association (Which does not include security guards, only sworn federal officers, but would work with guards to create their own unions), that unions such as the SEIU were not able to represent security forces, because a security guard union must be primarly composed of security guard workers. This may be "represent to the United States Government."

This is, basically, a rehash of DOL information that I've known - the industry is huge, there is no regulation, and Securitas and a few other "major security firms" control the entire market.

Hmmmm...I know our union, SPFPA, allegedly represents LEOs and fire types as well, but around here it's only the guards that make it up.

SEIU is also saying they're going to raise guards' pay nationwide. Like I say with many things, I'll believe it when I see it.
