I use any of several led converted maglites from my arsenal. :D
Some are well over 300 lumens of dazzling white light!
I am a long time member at www.candlepowerforums.com and learned a lot about finding or modding flashlights there to make any and all security posts I have ever worked super easy.

My agency requires a belt mounted flashlight on an officer's rig, at all times, and in all assignments. We issue one Streamlight Stinger XP (With the tail cap), and one Streamlight XL-20 to patrol officers (Its in the car, they drive the car.)
I personally use a Streamlight Stinger XP, which I like rather well. I perfer rechargable flashlights over non-rechargable or lithium based ones, because they're just there. I don't have to spend money on batteries.

Stinger, Surefire, Streamlight, and Mag-Lite for me. The more light the better. Bad guys hate light as much as roaches do! :D

You get a flashlight? Consider yourself lucky depending on who you work for. :) Rechargables start at 100 bucks for a magcharger (85-130 USD).

we get what we ask for sometimes, but 100 dollars seems a drop in the bucket compaired to the 100,000 dollars and more we just spent on totally new up grades to the security systems, all new computers flat screen monitors dvr's 24x cameras times about 30 cameras, etc etc.but who's complaining.. it is a great job where i am..

Agreed.
I'm one of the few s/o's in the company I work for to even carry a flashlight.
I also have fewer problems at my assigned posts than most of my flashlightless coworkers.
Not that a good flashlight is the be all/end all solution to security.
It's really not, but it has sure helped me and a few other security offers out a lot.
A good flashlight shining on/in and around the building at night sends a clear message that there is someone there to call the cops.
As far as that 4D goes, go ahead and snag some rechargeable 7.0 amp hour nicad batteries and a good Vanson speedybox charger for them.
www.amondotech.com is one of dozens of good places to find batteries and chargers.

I carry a 3 "D" cell mag light on my belt, a disposiable pen light in my EMT holster with my Shears and bandage scissors and when making patrol in the medical van I have a Million CP spotlight which I use to light up the fencelines. That habit has earned me the nickname "Q-Beam".

Streamlight 4 'D' Cell 'Excalibre Model'. It's battered and bruised but I've had it for years. :)
Recharageables are the way to go from a long term economical point of view, but wow, don't they cost the $'s?

I am well known for carrying flashlights day or night. You never know when you'll be out after dark or entering a dark building.
On my belt,on or off the clock,I carry a Streamlight Scorpion. In my turnout coat as a volunteer firefighter,I have a Pelican Little Ed with rechargeable batteries to void the warranty, and I also bought an LED kit to go into my Minimag.

I'm using a Stinger XT right now, I'd really like to switch to the Strion but I can't justify the expense.

Ahh... Funny that this old topic got brought up again... I was just thinking of this...
I've used my Stinger XT for a few years now, and aside from replacing the worn-out battery pack a couple times, haven't had any issues... But I recently got my hands on this really nice little LED light that a friend of mine picked up at Wal-mart of all places... It's about the size of the Surefire tactical series lights... And when I compared, it was actually BRIGHTER than my stinger... a freakin $10 generic wal-mart light! Sure, it's not rechargable, (uses 3 AAAs), but it's LED so the batteries don't need replacing nearly as often as on a regular light... Not to mention that it's so small it fits neatly on the duty belt, no larger than my pager holder, so it's a lot more comfortable to wear....
I hate to say it, but I think my Stinger may just become my backup light from now on... (And my friend may have to go purchase a new one, since this one aint coming off my belt anytime soon... LOL)
I'll see if I can locate info on it.. It doesn't have a model # anywhere on it, but I know it's made by Garrity..
EDIT: Found their info page... Doesn't give too much info about it, unfortunately, but I can tell you it sure is nifty.. lol

In Canada they're (or something like them) are sold at Canadian Tire. The one I have is LED with 2 different levels of light. It uses 3 AAA batteries.
It's great for indoors but not so good for outside. I find this will all LED lights. I use it around the house. On the job I'm presently carrying the Streamlight Twintask a LED & xeon(?) combination. The problem is that it uses lithium batteries that burn out quickly & are expensive. The only good thing is that when the xeon light goes out due to weak batteries the LED continues to work. I used to have a Surefire until I lost it. When the lithium batteries got weak it would stop working with no advanced notice. It did not gradually go dimmer. I always had to have a spare set of batteries with me.

Yup!
They sure do.
Well over 10,000 members and growing. :D
And not just flashlights, but also cordless shadowbusting spotlights and even metal halide cordless lights that can virtually turn night into day.

Yep, I picked up one of these beauties awhile back at Target and I love it. If you decide to get a LED light, opt for the 3-watt instead of the 1-watt. Bridgegate's link shows the 3-watt one. It's a much brighter light.
I also agree w/ Hotel Security that LED lights are not up to the outdoor challenge yet. Stick with the Scorpion, etc. for use outside.

LED lights are up to the outdoor challenge. Its just you won't find those kinds of lights at your local Wally World, they start at 150 dollars and usually carry brandnames like Streamlight (Weapon Mounted), NightOps (Gladius Personal), Innova (TD Series Tactical Lights, not the consumer stuff)...

Let me rephrase my post then: Most of our wallets are not up to the challenge when it comes to effective LED flashlights for outside. ;)

Actually, that reminds me... I was looking into the new Innova T4 a while back, but I'm not familiar with the company or their quality/power... It's a rechargable similar in size/shape to a Stinger, but it's LED... Do you, (or anyone else here, for that matter), know how it compares and if it's worth the $120 that QM wants for it? Or should I just stick with my Stinger XT for the time being? ;)

Not a clue, honestly. For that much, I'd spend a little more and get a Gladius, one store was selling them for 150. I don't know the name anymore, but I'm sure Google/Froogle does.
