but here is a follow-up, after the conviction

William Morva's attorney files an appeal for his client's conviction in an attempted bank robbery.

Back in June, a Montgomery County judge sentenced William Morva to 38 years in prison for seven charges related to three attempted robberies.

Those charges first landed Morva in jail, before he escaped last year.

The new twist in the Morva saga comes the week before Morva's capital murder trial is scheduled to begin in Christiansburg. Morva is charged with killing Montgomery County Sheriff's Corporal Eric Sutphin, and hospital security guard Derrick McFarland, during his escape.

I do. "Jail Guard" Correctional Deputy was killed with his own weapon, and the hospital security officer who attempted to prevent the disarm also was killed, if I remember.

We posted the article about the murder and escape in our substation (located on the main floor of our county hospital). I just love how the media refers to correctonal officers and deputies who are assigned to the custody division as guards. I worked custody for eight years and I can tell you that I was as proactive on the inside as I am on the outside. I made dope cases and weapon cases that the DA went with.

I never refer to security or corrections as guards, to me it's an insult.

The Media, especially the Associated Press, can never figure out what someone is unless they are a public law enforcement officer.

A Correctional Deputy who is guarding a prisoner may be, in the same article, called a "prison guard," "jail guard," "deputy sheriff," and "security guard."

Its worse if they are an off-duty law enforcement officer performing security duties.

If a security officer does something useful, they're an "officer." If they do something that sells newspapers (something bad,) then they're a guard.

The Deputy who was killed wasn't the same one who had the weapon taken.

The media still can't figure out what to call public law enforcement officers. The media constantly refers to correctional officers as guards. In California correctional officers are law enfocement officers.

William Morva was taken to the hospital for treatment in the middle of the night. He was transported by one sheriffs deputy as he wasn't deamed a threat. Morva went to the restroom and the deputy waited outside. Morva then removed a handicap railing (which was loosened by his brother earlier in the day) and bashed the deputy over the head. The security officer ran to aid the deputy and was shot when Morva took the deputy's weapon. Morva then shot the door out to the hospital and ran down a local trail.

The next morning, a Sheriff's deputy was patrolling the trail on a bike and was confronted by Morva. Morva shot him in the head and he died.

I am really suprised the officers who found Morva didn't shoot him on site.

LPCap, what goes around comes around. That's when you load up with special purpose +P+ ammo and do your thing. Better yet, if he did the deed in a capital punishment state or commonwealth for killing a LEO, like Florida, he meets the needle or sits in the chair.
