Duty Pro Baton

I was wondering if anyone has seen the $29 Duty Pro 21" baton in Gall's. I was thinking about purchasing one, but wasn't sure if it was one of those "you get what you pay for" deals. Thanks

I'm actually doing a price list for Streichers, so my stack'o'catalogs is next to me.

Galls does not make Duty Pro, which is a brand name for Quartermaster. Gall's Gear brand batons are rebrands of ASP Federal batons, since nobody seems to buy the molded santoprene grip "Federal" baton. We all get the regular foam replacable grips, "Tactical."

Your buying a rebadge of an ASP. It comes with a cool looking "G Shield" end cap, which I guess may be cool looking. I perfer the Wisconsin State Seal on the end cap of my ASP.

I see you noted that the baton is $29(.99) or so. I can't find a Galls Gear ASP baton cheapr than 50+ dollars. Galls sells Monadnock NYPD Straight Sticks in Polycarbonate for $36.99.

If, for some reason, you have a Quartermaster's Catalog and your confusing the two, I do not suggest buying any expandable baton that isn't made by CASCO, ASP, or Monadnock. (Winchester makes a good baton, but they're also 80 bucks, not 30.) Triple K brand batons are imports from china, I've seen the actual box they come in. It says "Solid Steel Stick" on it, and I bent a baton at a 40 degree angle before one of the sections snapped on a heavy bag.

Beware "Duty Pro" when it comes to weapons.

That looks like a Triple K "MegaGrip" baton. Alot of places are selling them for twenty dollars. Your not going to be able to certify with that baton, most likely, nor would I trust it in a pinch.

But, hell, its 20 dollars. If it breaks, it breaks, you can chalk it up to experience and buy a Galls Gear baton.

Since I am a certified Monadnock PR-24 and Monadnock Expandable Baton Instructor you could say I am slightly biased, but I have carried my expandable Monadnock 26-inch AutoLock baton with the rubber safety tip since 2001 and it has never let me down.

During a training exersize I was holding a shield-type bag while a fellow officer was striking it with his AutoLock. One swing missed the bag and hit me on the outside of my upper thigh. The force of the blow knocked me to the floor and my thigh hurt like hell for an hour or so, then I was fine.

The only other baton I would trust is the Winchester. Do not ask my opinion of the ASP. :D

I would perfer an ASP over a Mariner or Detective series. But, I do see the promise of the Autolock. Then again, I've carried ASP for 10 years plus.

I'm rather partial to ASPs myself... I saw a 21" put a 3" HOLE in a car door once... In a single swing... A HOLE, not a dent... crazy stuff... lol

I found out what these "Duty Pro" batons are. They're the same Triple K "MegaGrip" Baton that Cheaper Than Dirt is selling for thirty.

While we are on the subject, Does anyone know of an instructure that is near pa? I need to get certified in Oc, baton and advanced handcuff.

I personally carry an 21" ASP Airweight. When it comes to quality, you can't beat ASP in my opinion. Hennepin County Sheriffs carry the Autolock. I've heard good things about the Autolocks, but without ever using one personally I don't know if they really are good or bad. I wouldn't mind picking one up to try out. My ASP is getting a little too worn, and I could justify replacing it. At the same time, I have used my baton twice in the last year. Hence the reason I carry the airlite model, because the original ASPs are just too damn heavy for something I typically only use when checking garbage cans for stolen purses, wallets, etc.
