I would be interested in finding out if this security guard was armed or not. I'll bet three to one he was not and had no means of protecting himself, in Houston of all places.

Unfamiliar with American Inn. Most likely not armed. I know for a fact that it takes permission from the Vice President of Operations of any Hilton chain to be armed. Its why law enforcement officers may not be Hilton Security Officers - they must be armed.

Budget Suites of America has an armed in-house security dept. They are expected to proactively prevent and intervene with crime; however, a higher priority is given to non-security related duties such as performing maintenance, picking up trash, and doing janitorial duties. Unplugging someone's toilet takes a higher precedence than running off a pimp from the parking lot.
