Does anybody know the exact name or brand name of a strobelight flashlight? It operates by flashing bursts of intermitent light (at a suspect) that will disorient him enough so he cannot decifer your closing speed, in the event you need to tackle him or otherwise take him to the ground. Thanks.

Hemi has it...Gladius makes that light (or at least the original). It runs at 230-250 bucks, and from all accounts, it's well worth it.

A buddy of mine who is with a local PD here got issued one for his use on SWAT ops; he loves it.

His son does not.

Let alone the price for the batteries. I would settle for for a rechargeable light instead. You can get something more than 80 lumens at a much cheaper price from as far as I know. I have the stream light and pelican manufacture books if anyone is interested in prices.

I never said it was cost effective. :) But it is cool. When you have the cash to blow (as many police officers do, yay tax write offs), you end up buying things like that.

with all this talk about diffrent flashlight types, 2 D-Cells, 6 D-Cells...Stinger, Gladius...$250...screw all that mess...I'm just gonna go out and get me one of those flashlights you see on the infomercials at 1am. Hopefully it puts out enough light, and is instantly accessable. I rely on my Streamlight Stinger because it turns on, unless I forgot to charge it. Then its my own damn fault.

You'll be better off with one of those chemical light sticks. Glows for 8 hours... :p

I just picked up a beautiful Streamlight... A TwinTask 2L... ran about 30 bucks, but has an amazing light.

It alternates as you turn it on and off between a Xenon light and LED lights. I was trying it out in my darkened bathroom and it can really make someone think there are two officers present if you use it properly.

These lights are actually pretty amazing. They are great for keeping in the glovebox/trunk of your vehicle for those inevitable 4am tire changes. I usually keep a flashlight in my car, but EVERYTIME I would actually try to use the light, the batteries are dead! Hence the reason that the flashlight mentioned above makes sense. As far as using them as a duty-type of flashlight, not a chance. They use a simple LED light that produces just enough light to get by with, but not enough to really use for our purposes. I know someone (Mr. Security, this means you... lol) can somehow determine the lumens it produces.

I carry a stinger, and so does my boss. Funny story, last weekend my boss and I were walking around an apartment complex. We were checking windows of vacant ground-floor apartments for any signs of forced entry/vandalism. Well 5 minutes into it, his stinger battery goes dead. Buzzkill, but I had mine so no big deal right? We start to use my stinger, and guess what?!?! Mine dies moments later as well! I ended up stripping the taclight off of my weapon and using that as a flashlight! :)

What lesson did we both learn that night? Charge your flashlight nightly, or keep a spare battery in the car :)
