Interesting -- shrink increasing at one of the biggest of the big boxes

Their shrink is trending towards a figure just over 1% for the year. Many retailers would love to have a shrink number of 1%. That said, the changes in their LP program including the "reported" dollar amount before a thief is prosecuted is having an impact. WalMart has commented to some extent - talking about increased losses from internal, external theft, vendor fraud and increased inventory levels (meaning sales are down).

I, among many others, believe a retailer cannot "catch" their way to low shrink, but you can't just give away the farm either. Look for WalMart to bring back a more structured LP porgram to their stores.

A vigorous reactive component is important, but it takes proactive measures to close down opportunities, and that's where real shrink reduction is done.

What does that have to do with anything?

I've worked in retail management and I can tell you that none of the people we busted for internal theft were illegals.

Chimpie - I would agree with you. In more than 20 years in retail loss prevention I have never come across an "illegal" case. I have had numerous cases where convicted criminals used a faux SSN number to gain employment though.

How do you know their legal status?
