Guys if we are lucky we might be getting to carry a ASP in the next couple months. So I was wondering what is the best lenght to get and why? We are thinking of the 26". This is for Security at a large hospital.

Most Leos And Security Officers In My Area Carry The 26 Inch Because Of The Reach You Get With It. I suggest getting certified by asp or mondnock before carrying a baton.

I carried a 26 inch, originally, then went to a 21 inch ASP. I have long arms, and am tall, so I get the same amount of reach as the shorter guys with a 26.
I suggest chrome over black, visual intimidation with the baton is impressive at times when it makes that sound and glints off the light.
If you can wield one successfully, the 31" baton is insanely useful. But you have to have the ability to torque it well.

IMHO, in an indoor environment with a lot of fragile equipment such as the hospital, shorter may be better. I myself recently scaled all the way back to the 16" airweight...Okay, primarily becuase I've never used the damn thing, but that's another forum. :D
I agree about the certification. Get it, and cover a potential avenue of liability, as well as pad your resume. ;)

The 16" airweight, or the regular Federal model, is good for close quarters. Just... don't stick a Triad on the end of the thing. :) Your baton is not a flashlight, but your flashlight may be a baton.

OK thanks.
I ahve heard that the training has been talked about letting the Fort Smith PD train us? Would this be OK?

If the PD has certified ASP instructors, of course it's okay.

They have always carried OC spray and no noone is certified on that either. But the ASP is trying to get approved through the hospital lawyer supposedly.
Later this year they want us to be Armed.

Heh.. sounds like VA Hospital Police... first they get some spray... then ASPs... eventually they are armed, get some cool cars... before you know it, they are all commissioned police officers!
