I need to locate information on the number of security officers killer each year on the job. We are fighting to go armed at the college and are in the information gathering stage. We are all PA-ACT 235 Certified and need to convince our admins to alow us to carry. We are required to bring our guns to work and to qualify annually, but are not alowed to carry other than to do money escorts.

Unfortunately, this is going to be rather difficult to come up with a firm number. As far as I know, there isn't really a "Security Officer Down" page that actively seeks out information on security officers who are killed. As we all know, when a law enforcement officer is killed it is viewed nationwide as a tragedy and a great loss (which it is), however; when an S/O is killed it is usually followed up by "What the hell did he put himself in that situation for in the first place?!"

There is some good info on the S/Os injured/killed section on this page, but as for an association with these statistic, I know of none, except maybe the U.S. Dept. of Labor, but I dont know if they'd have it either.

I can't remember where I saw the link, (might have even been from someone here), but I was directed a while back to a government page that ranks the "Most dangerous" jobs, based on fatalities... From what I recall, Security has surpassed LEOs on that list, due to lack of defensive training, equipment, etc...

I tried finding it on the Department of Labor page, but was unsuccessful... Something to look for though.. Good luck!
