It's 1 block south of & 6 blocks east of my downtown hotel  It's 2 blocks north of the red light district. I have spoken to people who have worked there & they told me it was a dangerous site.
The daily English paper, The Montreal Gazette had a very small story with less info than this post on page 5 or 7. I'm going to buy the Journal de Montreal which is a French paper that covers the crime scene better. I'll post any further info I find.

As I suspected the Journal de Montreal had a lot more information. There was a whole page with a picture of an Identification Technician from the police taking a photo of the crime scene.
The police believe the stabbing was done by a member of a street gang. The complexe consists of 5 high rise buildings, 35 multiplexes & 50 town houses. There are 771 households of which only 287 have people that work. It's a large area in the east end of the downtown area that the gangs like to use because of it's settings, to sell drugs.
The police nor the Journal did not mention this but recently some of the nearby streets have had video surveillance cameras installed which has driven the drug dealers off of them.
The Guard was not named in the story. As of Friday night he was still critical but stable. Security in the complexe had just been beefed up following 2 attacks recently. The guard was patrolling alone but had a partner nearby who came to his rescue.
As uaual in Canada these secuirty guards do not carry guns & pepper spray, Tasers etc are illegal.

The Journal de Montreal had a follow up article on Sunday August 13. There was nothing at all about the condition of the guard. It just spoke about the fact that security has been increased including more patrols by the police. It also said that management of the complexe have started programs for young people to try & keep them out of the street gangs.
It asked the residents to help try & find the guy who did the stabbing.
There was a photo of security guard on patrol, now with a guard dog.

Ah, Canada. They won't let them have batons or pepper spray or guns, but just about anywhere you can deploy a brilliant weapon.
The K-9 Brilliant Guided Missile System, capable of independently acquiring, designating, engaging, and neutralizing multiple targets in most threatres.

I can't find any followup news about the condition of the guard or what's happening in the case.
Hiowever the other night there was a stabbing a few blocks away. A couple was arguing. When a passerby tried to stop it he was stabbed. This was on the corner where the police headquarters are located!
Vests seem to be a good idea these days, oh, and combat training, someone watching your back and a winning lottery ticket.

Just shows you, you have to be careful. Anyone that approaches you and gets into striking distance is a possible assailant.
Hard to keep up the vigil but it needs to be done.
Be careful all.
