Hello all!
Newbie here...
Just wondering how often one must be a casual in a hospital setting until a full-time opportunity becomes available. I understand this question is subjective, but hoping to get a response or two that gives me a ballpark. I just graduated with a B.S. in LE and CJS (double major), and would like to sneak my way into a hospital of some sort, but seems as if every position I see is "casual" or "part-time".
I just can't risk taking a job that has no guaranteed hours, especially with my $300 student loan payment per month coming up. Has anyone had a chance to work, or know of someone who worked a casual hospital position, and can tell me how the hours work? Can you switch hospitals to gain more hours (i.e. Allina, HealthEast, etc)?
BTW-I also have 5+ years security experience with companies such as American Security, Vance Uniformed Protection Services, and Whelan security. Not only that, but have also been a reserve at White Bear Lake PD for 4 yrs, volunteered in Adult Probation for Washington County Community Correction for a little over a year (200 hours), and dabbled in at Boys Totem Town for 50 hours or so with Ramsey County Corrections as well. I am focused on sticking in security, and not police work as originally planned. Probation would be ideal for me, but the outlook per job is not good at all right now, obviously.
Any and all help is appreciated!
